So it seems that there are a lot of tools now for online games. I am not yet committing to running one but I was wondering if there was much interest in an online game based on 3rd Edition rules?

Online seems to be a great way to get across elements of horror and intrigue as long as the GM and players are fully committed but most online games I have been in (or started) seem to be like fireworks: start with a bang end quickly.

I would play. Smile

I have maptools installed and a ventrilo server to volunteer.

Laters,

PBF is play by forum? I like that idea too as it allows a little more flexibility and forums are pretty easy to administer.

I like the PBF style overall. Gives you time to write out things for the story and present more detail.

of course it gives you more time to write something detailed.

and helps out with the terms. for example I am from europe and it would be really hard for us to play online in the same time.

okay. let's finish with the theories. Is there someone that could afford being a GM on edpt? Wink
we would create a topic only for players to write in, gather about 6 people and just try to play some campaigns.

(I miss Harlan that "GM'ed" before edpt went down...he could help us)

I ran a game using Maptools a while ago but found I didnt really have the time to GM. It worked really well but from a GMs point of view I found theres a lot more prep required to run online than a face-to-face session - hence the lack of time.

Chroniclers and Faewin, is there any chance that you would like to "play by forum" on edpt?

That would help a lot with the iintrest checking thing.. Wink

I'd bear more than passing interest on that idea.

I am up for GM'ing so I am working on researching some ideas about online play. I don't really have any experience with it other than using forum posts as a way to do additional inter-character RP and story exposition while away from the table.

Since PbP doesn't really have a table time I am worried that the game pacing might be a little slow. So I am reading some other PbP games and trying to get a feel for a good combination of character action granularity and story advancement where the pace would not feel glacial.

Since the ED community seems to be spread out across many different time zones it seems like it might be hard to come up with a time for IRC play or something similar.

Anyone have any experience with online play with advice to offer as I plan?

Hey, all... I used to be here quite a bit... perhaps it's time to begin that trend, again.

Now, I'm not volunteering to run a game of Earthdawn, as I'm already running Warhammer Fantasy Role-Play -in fact, after a one-year hiatus, we're starting back up this coming weekend-, though I would be willing to play, especially if I might find and use a character I actually had for Harlan's game a few years back.

He and I had a falling out because I felt he was treating one of the other players better than the rest of us when he was being obnoxious and was not culled. Also, I was playing a Scout, and this same other player was allowed to do what I, as a Scout, should have been able to do, though he was allowed to without being a Scout.

Now, I have some tips that I use in my Warhammer game that may be used here, as well, if you want to look at the following...

The dice roller we use, which will work with Earthdawn dice just fine... www.wolvesau.net/wh/fa...php?p=5#p5

Get down to just below the basics and you can find simpler than normal PbEM or PbF rules... www.wolvesau.net/wh/fa...php?p=6#p6

More on posting... www.wolvesau.net/wh/fa...2054#p2054

Okay, these rules are not perfect, and they are for my version of Warhammer, but I run the full game, character sheets and all...
www.wolvesau.net/wh/athaeis <<< This is my NPC in the Warhammer game

This is Athaeis, my favorite character -yes, even across games- for Earthdawn >>> www.wolvesau.net/earth...thaeis.php

No, the sheet is not perfect, and it could require a great deal of work, yet, especially for a GM to personalize it, but I would be willing to share this. Perhaps someone out there with much greater programming ability than I could make something of this?

Let me know what you think, please?

Currently running a PbP game on the official forums, and yes, the pacing can be slow. But that suits me just fine to be honest.

Are people interested in an email/PbP game, or something that might be done in real time, but at a distance (like something done via Megameeting)?
